"How to be a Professional WebMaster" is a very comprehensive and step-by-step "distance-learning" WebMaster course. It is structured and offered to the wider Internet audience by Carlo Scodanibbio, international consultant and trainer, and replicates - identical in its content - the webmaster section of the "real-world" program "How to build a Professional Web Site" he presents regularly at the University of Cape Town.

A Web Site is not a Web Brochure.
Today's Web Site must be "useful", "serving a purpose", "usable", "traceable", interactive, dynamic, filled with "live" contents.
Without those features, a Web Site is condemned to stagnation and failure - dead from day 1.
To avoid this risk, all Web Sites need a WebMaster - part-time or full-time - "internal" to the organisation owning the Web Site.
This is particularly true for micro, small and medium enterprises, for small businesses, for professionals, for small institutions.
While the original design and publication of a Web Site may be delegated to "external" Web Agencies, the WebMaster function should not. For three main reasons: time, cost, effectiveness.
Likewise, in those cases in which a Web Site has been designed "internally" - possibly using a wysiwyg web editor such as MS Frontpage or Dreamweaver - what is lacking is the knowledge of the necessary WebMaster's functions, functions that are strictly associated with the Design operations.
In both cases, a WebMaster input is missing.
This course is structured to give the necessary know-how, as well as 101 hints and tips, to a potential WebMaster. This course will explain:
- How today's Internet works and what are its main "protocols" and governing rules
- Why a WebMaster is required already from the inception stage of a Web Site, and what is the WebMaster's role
- How can a WebMaster contribute to "re-engineer" and make successful a static, stagnating Web Site
- How can a WebMaster assure Web Site "visibility" and "traceability" by Search Engines
- How does a WebMaster contribute to the success of Marketing/Promotion initiatives
- What are the WebMaster functions with regard to managing a "Domain Name", the "Web Hosting" solution and "Traffic Monitoring" issues
- What are the main principles governing the new E-Economy, and how to apply them in practice to make a Web Site successful
- and tools, techniques, hints, tricks and tips by the ton
This course is designed for anybody interested in becoming a Professional WebMaster.
Micro, small and medium enterprises, businesses and institutions willing to create their own internal WebMaster (part-time or full-time) will find this course well suited to the purpose.
To take this course delegates should have some basic knowledge of Web Design (HTML or wysiwyg editors), and be somehow familiar with Web Files' uploading (FTP - File Transfer Protocol).
If delegates' knowledge of these two disciplines is missing, they should rather take first the Basic Module of "How to build a Professional Web Site" (for details, click here).
This Course is the WebMaster section of the very popular course "How to build a Professional Web Site", presented both as a "real-world" and "distance-learning" course.
"How to be a Professional WebMaster" has been structured as a separate "distance-learning" course following many requests from the public.
It consists of 4 very intensive and comprehensive Lessons, available as an e-book.
Enrolled participants may receive it as an e-mail attachement or may download it from the Net.
The e-book file comes as an executable (.exe) file for Windows people, and as a zipped (.zip) file for everybody, including Mac people.
Its installation is simple and fast. It's fully automatic for Windows Operating Systems. Mac people have to follow very basic and simple "unzipping" instructions.
Once installed, the Course Lessons can be studied with the style, pace and timing most suited to each participant.
This Course is "DIY" in its format. However, the course leader is always available to supply clarifications and advice to those participants needing some assistance/guidance.
This service is provided by e-mail, and it's totally free-of-charge to enrolled participants.
Lessons are technical enough to satisfy the "expert" and still simple enough to be well understandable to whoever has some basic Computer/Internet literacy.
Concepts are delivered with an informal, relaxed and entertaining tone.
